Raffles

Raffles are a class of charitable gambling where entrants pay a pre-determined amount for entry and a winner is chosen from those entries in a random fashion. There are a number of state-approved methods for choosing a winner. The most common case is simply drawing a winning ticket or tickets from some container (jar, barrel, box, etc.), but there are many other acceptable methods (listed here). Often, a raffle is featured as a grand prize as part of a community event, but raffles are also conducted for prizes (like meat packages, gift certificates, etc.) on a regular basis at a licensed charitable gambling site.
